The Mechanical Engineering and Fabrication Group is responsible for the design and fabrication of a wide variety of mechanical components, assemblies and specialized devices. Among these are antennas and pedestals, instrumentation packaging, instrumentation vans and trailers. Specialized mechanical devices include lifters, movers, and environmentally ruggedized enclosures.
Airborne Antenna Pedestal System (AAPS) |
The AAPS is an azimuth-over-elevation gear-driven pedestal system capable of supporting antenna assemblies from 500 MHz to 18 GHz. It has full 360º range-of-motion in azimuth and 180º range in elevation. The AAPS incorporates interfaces (including MIL-STD-1553B) that permit computer control for both slew and auto-track. It is portable between both ground-based and airborne platforms.
![]() Lightweight Tracking System (LWTS) |
The LWTS is a mobile instrumentation van housing an electro-optical tracking pedestal and a complete laboratory/operations area. Retractable clam-shell doors provide the field-of-view required by the optical system. The entire van complex (trailer, generator bay and instrumentation section) was designed and manufactured by Syndetix from the "ground up".
![]() HAVE GAZE Antenna |
The HAVE GAZE program consisted of aerial tests conducted with a blimp that evaluated ground terrain with radar systems. This effort was performed for Phillips Laboratory, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Syndetix designed and fabricated X- and S-band antenna systems including the pedestal and installed the radar systems on the airship. The data gathered allowed for evaluation of classified clutter algorithms.
